Make Your Own Smart Phone Movie Projector By Moyraa Ali

Have you ever become frustrated with a tiny cell phone screen? Have you ever wanted a larger screen to enjoy the videos you love so you can watch them with friends? Well now you can and you don't have to buy those costly projectors that take such a long time to hook up.

Before we begin, You'll need a couple of materials:

  • One shoe box
  • A detached magnifying glass
  • Tape
  • Thick card
  • 2 rubber bands
  • A dark room
Extra materials
  • A blue tooth phone dock so you can hear properly

Instructions:

  1. Cut a hole in one end of the shoe box the size of the magnifying lens and place the lens in the hole. Use tape to ensure light will only enter the box through this lens.
  2. To find the focus, point the lens at a nearby window or light source. Move the card through the box until it displays the external image sharply.
  3. Wrap the rubber round the card to make a phone holder. Tape the card upright at the focus point you just identified.
  4. Secure the phone upside down (its image will be flipped). Make sure you have lock the rotation of the screen.
  5. Finally, adjust the box’s position until it throws a picture onto the wall.
Extra Instructions
If you have a bluetooth sound dock, I would use it because the volume gets muffled when it is in the enclosed space of the shoe box.

  2. Thanks, Moyraa, for the fun project! I can't wait to try this with my seventh grade students. And did you see this on the Popular Science site - how to make a speaker using Post-It notes? http://www.popsci.com/undefined/paperspeaker
