Schools are struggling with high fresh-food costs.
Since 2004, more than 90% of all U.S. schools have trimmed the fat from lunches. Foods high in fat, salt and sugar have been replaced by low-fat milk, fresh fruits and vegetables.
The price of milk is also going up in price, according to TFK. It went up by 33 cents already by August of last year, 2013.
Does your mom or dad pack your lunch? Or do you pack your own lunch? If so, what do you put in your lunch?
Packing a healthy lunch is a good, active choice for you to make yourself. In order to have a “healthy lunch,” your lunch should contain the following. This is going to keep you healthy and active during your regular school day:
- Fruit or Vegetable: Strawberries, watermelon, carrots, or beans.
- Dairy: Cottage cheese, or any kind of dairy. Yogurt, cheese, or milk.
- Grains: Rice, whole wheat bread, pasta, oatmeal, or breakfast cereals.
- Snacks: Crackers, chips, or any sort of desert, but only a little one.
