Who Owns the World? By Moyraa Ali

Who wants to see the rich get richer while poverty lingers in the air all over some parts of the world?
No one does, but that is just the way it is.
  • According to CNN, the wealthiest 1% of the world will  own over 50% of the world's wealth by next year
  • Right now, those richest people own 48% of the world.
  • Of the remaining 52% , 46% of it is owned by the rest of the richest fifth of the worlds population.
  • The remaining 6% owns only 5.5% of the world. The 6% average only $3,851 per adult.
  • The 80 richest people on the planet have the same wealth as the poorest 3.5 billion people, the report says.
"The scale of global inequality is quite simply staggering; and despite the issues shooting up the global agenda, the gap between the richest and the rest is widening fast," said Winnie Byanyima, executive director of the international aid agency.
